The Meross Smart Garage Door opener is one of several products by Meross, a company who make budget-friendly HomeKit compatible smart home devices. We’ve been using their Smart Garage Door opener for the last month and this is our review of the MSG100 Smart Wi-Fi Garage Door opener.
What’s in the box?
The Meross Smart Garage Door opener comes with everything you need to get started. There’s the Wifi garage door opener itself with is a small white device with a status light, stickers to mount it to your existing garage door opener, a open/closed sensor and plenty of cable length.
How easy is it to set up the Meross Smart Garage Door Opener?
Setting up the garage door opener requires you to follow the instructions that come with it and is a pretty simple process which will vary slightly depending on who manufactures your existing electric garage door opener. The process however involves plugging it in and getting it configured to your Wi-Fi using the Meross app, getting the open/closed sensor in place on your garage doors and then hooking it up to your existing opener.
From there it’s all about tidying up your cables and mounting the opener somewhere out the way. You can choose to configure it in the Meross app or in Apple’s Home app (or in both!)
How well does the Meross Smart Garage Door Opener work?
Once set up the Meross Smart Garage Door opener let’s you open and close the door from the Meross app, from Apple’s Home app, using IFTTT or using voice assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant. Using it with Alexa requires you to set up a pin number as the garage door opener counts as a lock
You can use the Meross app to set up routines (e.g. making sure it’s closed at certain times of the day) and you can receive notifications when it’s opened or closed or even left open for longer periods of time. This is great for security and knowing when you’ve accidentally left it open.
Using IFTTT or HomeKit automations mean that you can even tie it into other devices in your house.
Personally, I love being able to easily open it from the Home shortcuts on my iPhone and even from my CarPlay screen when I get home. I’ve found that it works every time and is easily one of the best smart home products I’ve purchased.
Should I buy the MSG100?
Our answer is a resounding yes…you need to check your existing garage door opener is compatible first but it’s easy to fit, has a great app, works with every service you’d want it to and works perfectly and at £40 it’s also really reasonably priced. If you want to get one you can pick one up here
